FAQs

  • Marc Timpano has over 39 years of law enforcement experience. In 1984, he started his police career in New York City’s Midtown South Precinct. He became a Police Officer in the Nassau County Police Department in 1987, where he was assigned to the Sixth Precinct in Manhasset.

Over the next 25 years his career took him through many positions of increasing rank within the police department. He worked in the Emergency Service Bureau until he was promoted to Detective. As Detective, he worked as a forensic chemist assigned to the Scientific Investigation Bureau. After getting promoted to Sergeant in 2005, and working back in patrol, he was soon asked to return to the Scientific

Investigation Bureau as supervisor of the Drug Chemistry Section. Detective/Sergeant Timpano was promoted to Lieutenant in 2009, and returned to patrol. In 2012, he was transferred to the Chief of Support’s Office as Administrative Supervisor. In May 2014, the Assistant Commissioner of Police asked him to become the Commanding Officer of the Pistol License Section where he remained until his retirement. With great pride, a key accomplishment is that he became part of a team of investigators who have helped build a model for professionals in the licensing of pistol permit holders, which has now become recognized by police agencies and fellow colleagues throughout the State. His rapport and cooperation in helping to establish an open dialogue between Nassau County FFL Gun Dealers and the police department has helped to ensure our residents of Nassau County with a pistol license are well advised and receive services second to none.
